1. Report: Cyberbullying and Online Teens
Submitted by Robert Daeley on Fri, 2008-05-02 15:42.
PEW/Internet has published a report on Cyberbullying and Online Teens,
About one third (32%) of all teenagers who use the internet say they have
been targets of a range of annoying and potentially menacing online
activities such as receiving threatening messages; having their private
emails or text messages forwarded without consent; having an embarrassing
picture posted without permission; or having rumors about them spread online.

2. ThinkQuest Judges Needed
Submitted by Molly Large on Thu, 2008-05-01 14:03.
ThinkQuest is in the home stretch of judging, and it's become clear they need
additional judges. The entire process happens online - and it's very
rewarding to those who can take the time to review sites and score using the
online rubric provided.
To serve as a ThinkQuest judge, volunteers must be:
* Currently employed as a teacher, or have a minimum of five years
experience in the field of education;
* Proficient in the English language (all entries are judged in English);
* Able to evaluate and score websites based on the provided Evaluation
Criteria (requires necessary time to review and access to a computer and
Internet connection).
As an incentive, participating judges can win prizes!
Judges who score a minimum of 15 sites will be entered into a drawing to
receive an iPhone. One top-performing judge will be selected to receive a
trip to ThinkQuest Live 2008 (in San Francisco).
To volunteer as a ThinkQuest Judge, please enroll at
http://www.thinkquest.org/judge/. Judging concludes May 5, 2008.

3. Survey Season
Submitted by Gregg Legutki on Thu, 2008-05-01 12:13.
Each year about this time, Educational Support Systems (ESS), our outside
evaluators, sends out a request to complete the CTAP survey. This survey
collects information from people who have participated in one of our
workshops, attended one of our meetings, or had some type of consultation
contact with any CTAP Region 10 staff.
The information that ESS collects in this survey is very important to our
future planning. Aside from the nuts and bolts numbers, the data assists
Region 10 in developing new workshops and pursuing new direction for support
to our districts. In the past, results from the ESS CTAP survey has
resulted in the development and implementation of new workshops including:
Digital Classroom which supports the effective use of technology tools to
improve student engagement and support the adopted curriculum
Podcasting where participants learn how to incorporate Podcasts into their
K-12 curriculum to increase student engagement
Data Teams which is designed for administrators and teacher leaders who
want to become a site-level Data Team to support assessment literacy at their
school site
Marzano Strategies Integrated with Technology where participants learn how
technology can help implement learning strategies to increase student
achievement
If you have already responded to the email from ESS by completing the survey,
we appreciate your time in providing this information. If you have not yet
had the opportunity to complete the survey, we ask that you plan some time in
the next few days so that we can include your valuable input.
Please remember that this CTAP survey is not the recently completed
California School Technology Survey (CSTS) that assesses the number of
computers, connectivity, and general use of technology at a district or site
level. Nor is the CTAP survey in any way similar to EdTechProfile, where
teachers are asked to self-assess their skills in integrating technology in
the classroom.

4. 2006-2007 EETT Formula Grant Period Comes to an End
Submitted by Jenny Thomas on Tue, 2008-04-29 13:38.
The 2006-2007 EETT Formula grant period closes on June 30, 2008. All funds
from that grant cycle must be spent or obligated by June 30, 2008, or the LEA
will be billed for unspent funds. As a reminder, 25% of all EETT funds must
be spent on professional development, with the balance spent on technologies
that are tied to the district technology plan.
The End of Period Expenditure Reports (EOPs) are due to the CDE by September
12, 2008. The reports are available to download through the CDEs server at
ftp://ftp.cde.ca.gov/edtech/eop/ You will not receive a hard copy in the
mail
Once the EOP is reviewed and approved by the CDE, final payment for the
2006-2007 EETT formula grant award will be sent to the LEA.
For questions or for more information, please contact Jenny Thomas, RIMS CTAP
Project Specialist, or Larry Hiuga, CDE Education Technology Office, e-mail:
lhiuga at cde.ca.gov, tel. 916-327-4629.
